We believe we can give you the best mini dachshunds in the world for a very simple reason: these puppies come from the best mothers and fathers imaginable. They’re healthy, friendly, and have beautiful features.
Breeding has always been important when it comes to dachshunds. In fact, these were originally bred as hunting dogs back in Germany hundreds of years ago. They specialized in chasing badgers and other burrow-dwelling animals out of their homes. In the late 19th century, German hunters began to breed the smallest dachshunds of each gender they could find with each other to create an even smaller animal. The goal was to fit them into smaller burrows, such as one a rabbit would make a home in. Eventually, this led to the creation of the miniature dachshund.
These dogs have evolved from ferocious, if small hunters to beloved and popular family pets. They were introduced to the United States in the late 1800’s and, although they declined in popularity during the World Wars due to their German roots, they eventually recovered to become one of the most popular breeds in America.
The pups stay true to their name, remaining miniature for their entire lives as they tend not to grow past 12 pounds. They tend to be energetic dogs, so they’re certain to be willing to play. We will only sell a healthy puppy to you, and you’re likely to have that new friend for a long time as many miniature dachshunds live for 12 to 15 years. The dogs have a variety of beautiful features, with different lengths and colors of fur.
Here at Doc’s Mini Dachshund’s, we’re a full-service breeder of miniature dachshunds dedicated to breeding the finest possible puppies. We’re registered for dachshund breeding with the American Kennel Club. Our breeder, Suzanne Alt, has successfully bred miniature dachshund puppies at our Mount Vernon, IL home for years. Regardless of where you live, we can help set up with the perfect miniature dachshund.
Here’s how it works: we have a waiting list for the puppies. If you’re interested in adopting, reach out to us and let us know what you’re interested in (male or female, long or short hair, fur color etc.). When a litter is born, I will wait a few days and then begin to post pictures and email those on the waiting lists. As long as you are a reputable person, you will receive a puppy of your liking as soon as your place on the lists come up.
There are some considerations you should make before the puppy enters your home for the first time. For starters, do you have the proper living arrangements to handle an energetic small dog? If you have a yard, does it have a fence? If you’ve never had one before, are you sure you’re ready for the responsibility? Do you have a veterinarian in mind to take the dog for regular checkups? If there are children around, will you be able to teach them how to play with the dog, so they don’t hurt each other? Are there any other animals in the house you’re going to have to introduce the dog to?
At Doc’s Mini Dachshunds, we’ll help you find the perfect furry friend. Please feel free to browse the photos of dogs and prospective parents on our website. We know you’ll be thrilled with the miniature dachshund we provide for you.
If you’re in the market for a new dog, there are very few options more appealing than a miniature dachshund. These tiny creatures are sweet, loyal, energetic, and adorable – the perfect pet for just about any family.
Here at Doc’s Mini Dachshunds, we breed and sell miniature dachshunds and no other type of dog. We focus solely on this lovely breed. We have a stable of parent dogs that breed the most adorable mini dachshund puppies.
