Miniature dachshunds would not exist if humans had never purposefully bred certain dogs with each other. Dachshunds originally gained popularity in Germany a few hundred years ago as hunting dogs. They specialized in chasing badgers and other burrow-dwelling animals out of their homes. Eventually, these hunters started breeding the smallest males and females with each other in an effort to create a dog small enough to fit in tiny burrow holes, such as ones where rabbits live. Eventually, this led to the creation of the miniature dachshund breed.
As experienced professionals, we know how important a dog’s bloodline is when it comes to breeding. So much is determined by the bloodline, it goes beyond just the dog’s appearance. The bloodline is, above all else, a snapshot of all of the dog’s direct family members that have come before them. As with all animals, this can help determine so much about a dog. You can learn a lot about what a dog will be like and what kind of puppies it will produce by looking at its bloodline.
One of the most important things a bloodline will tell you about is the health of a dog. A good breeder will know to scrutinize the bloodline to determine if there’s any history of genetic defects, behavior issues, or any medical issues that could be an issue for its puppies. Taking a good look at the health of a bloodline is the best way to prevent health issues in new puppies.
Another important consideration when looking at a dog’s bloodline is personality. A dog’s personality is mostly determined by genetics. It’s important to have a sire and dam with similar personality if you want a puppy with a similarly positive personality. Other important considerations that are scrutinized by the breeder include the temperament and behavior shown through the dog’s bloodline.
When you buy from Doc’s Mini Dachshunds, you can be sure that we’ve taken a close look at the bloodlines of our parent dogs as part of our effort to provide you with the perfect miniature dachshunds. We’re a full-service breeder that’s registered with the American Kennel Club. Our breeder, Suzanne Alt, takes care to breed only the finest miniature dachshunds at our Mount Vernon, IL home.
Feel free to browse our website to take a look at the parents that we currently have on hand. We have separate tabs for our current parents and our future mothers and sires. Sometimes it can be nice to get a good look at the parents of a puppy that you plan to adopt beforehand to get a feel for what your miniature dachshund might look like when they’re all grown up.
Of course, miniature dachshunds don’t do too much growing in the physical sense. They generally only grow to about 12 pounds. But because we breed only healthy dogs with each other, you’re likely to have your puppy live the expected lifetime of 12 to 15 years, giving you as much time as you could hope for with your new pet.
If you’re new to the puppy buying process and want more information on parents we have or how the breeding process works, feel free to contact us!
As much we’d all like it to be the case, you can’t just snap your fingers and make the perfect miniature dachshund appear. No, it takes a breeding process that involves a professional. And one of the most important parts of that process is the parents of the dog. In some ways, dogs are not so different from humans: their characteristics, appearance, and personality are largely determined by their genetics. A male and female dog are bred to create the perfect combination of attributes and, hopefully, a litter of perfect little puppies are born.
Here at Doc’s Mini Dachshunds, we’ve perfected that process to give our customers the ideal miniature dachshund to take home. We know how important the bloodline is when it comes to breeding miniature dachshunds.
